First Meeting of the Semester: Free Donuts!

Posted on 27 August 2007

Come join us in Union 3202 (third floor) at 9:30 PM on Tuesday, August 28. We'll have free donuts! More importantly, though, you'll learn how you can get involved in our original TV shows and films, filming sports events, and much more.

Here at RPI TV, we've been busy getting ready for a new semester. This fall, we have lots of exciting new things planned. Not only will we be broadcasting hockey and football games live on channel 6 this fall (that's right, not just one or two will be live, but all of them), but we'll also be teaming up with the Athletics Department and a web streaming company to broadcast games live over the web. Speaking of which, our website, now rpitv.org, will soon become the home of on-demand streaming for RPI TV productions, so our work will really be accessible to whoever wants to see it. The semester's first episode of "What's up, RPI?" is in the works, and a new gameshow for Channel 6 is on its way. Already, we've got some great content this semester - the NRB group this year put together an awesome spoof of NBC's The Office, which had some very impressive ideas, scripting, and technical work. Stay tuned to Channel 6 and rpitv.org, it's really worth seeing.

We're working hard to match our growth as a club with equipment for our members to use. Adding to our arsenal of professional-grade production equipment is the new quad-core Mac Pro editing station, complete with Final Cut Studio and CS 3 Production Premium and some other great software. We've stocked up on DVDs, cables, and (of course) gaff tape so we can match the level of last year's Hockey Freakout and Whiteout productions at every game we cover.

But all this means nothing without our members. It's your ideas, enthusiasm, and involvement that will bring RPI TV into its strongest semester yet. Whether you'd like to join the crew of one of our shows, get in on the sports action, or even start work on your own film, we can help you out. Everyone -- from the old-hands at TV work to those who have never had the oppurtunity to learn to use this kind of equipment -- should stop by. We'll be holding equipment training pretty soon, and in one evening you'll be able to learn about camerawork, our live video switcher, and the processes that go into taking a sports game or an idea for a film and making it into real TV.

How do you get involved? Easy as, well, donuts. Stop by Union 3202 tomorrow night (Tuesday) at 9:30 PM. We'll have free food. Whether you just want a little more information about what we do, or you're ready to sign up to volunteer at events, stop by. If you do decide to join us, the commitment is small, but the opportunity to learn and have fun is huge.

We hope to see you Tuesday!

If you can't make the meeting, we'll be there at the same time and same place every Tuesday evening this semester. Contact us with any questions you might have at rpitv@union.rpi.edu..
